Jay Z rarely does press, but with the launching of his newly purchased streaming platform Tidal, Hov gave Billboard a rare sit-down. During the discussion, the successful entrepreneur dissects the early beginnings of wanting to buy Tidal, his business model for artists to make more profit, competing with Beats By Dre and Spotify, rewriting the music industry business with his newest move, the devaluation of music, and much more. Does Jay Z have a valid point in how we consume music? Or is he just selling his new product?

Music is imagine your life without music. Its a very valuable part of your life, and like I said, thats why we got in this business. It seems to be going the other way. People are not respecting the music, and [are] devaluing it and devaluing what it really means. People really feel like music is free, but will pay $6 for water. You can drink water free out of the tap, and its good water. But theyre OK paying for it. Its just the mind-set right now.
