Hip Hop Mourns Over Charleston Shooting

Last night, a 21 year old white male opened fire in a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina. The ruckus occurred at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and resulted in nine casualties, including Pastor and State Senator Reverend Clementa Pinckney.

The Department of Justice has described the incident as a “hate crime” and the FBI has now identified the shooter as Dylann Roof of Columbia, South Carolina. His uncle, Carson Cowles, recognized his nephew from the surveillance camera footage and identified him to law enforcement.

CNN reports Thursday morning (6/18,) authorities arrested Dylann Roof three hours away from the church in Shelby, North Carolina.

Some of hip hop’s leaders have reacted to the tragedy on social media.
