The Misspelling of Hip Hop

The misspelling of hip-hop has long been a back and forth battle in cultures, both within and outside of hip hop. Whether stylistically or linguistically the word hip-hop has been seen, butchered, doctored and altered in many different ways.

From inception of the genre back in the 80s hip-hop has been seen with all caps, slashes, hyphens, colons and even question marks, but the truth is, there is no real way to spell it. Yes, many will argue, that according to the Oxford dictionary and the most reputable editorial style guide that it’s spelt a certain way, but the truth is no right way!

Much like the genre, “Hip Hop” should be spelt on how you identify with it, the same way as how your suppose to interpret the music.
