Last night, the 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards aired, and tons of fans and viewers tuned in to see the culture come together for a big night of tributes. While there were many highlights of the show between the stage performances, as well as Scarface receiving the special I Am Hip Hop Award, it was the cyphers that had most at the edges of their seats.

Not only did some of today’s favorite rap names participate in some of the cyphers, as well as some rising stars, but some unexpected veterans came on and shocked viewers. The Def Squad cypher featured the likes of Redman, Erick Sermon, and Keith Murray, along with DJ Scratch on the one’s and two’s. The trio proved that they might be more low key on the mainstream radar, but they are all about pushing hip-hop culture forward with their impeccable lyricism.
