New York is in dire need of a budding star. For years, dejected rap purists have prayed for a young messiah capable of carrying the city on its shoulders. While the task does sound intimidating, considering the city’s forefathers were the likes of JAY Z, The Notorious B.I.G., and Nas, someone has to swoop in and save the day, right? Enter Dave East.

In 2014, Nas called his name and decided to sign the talent to his label Mass Appeal. With a vastly similar style to that of a Styles P, and even some instances a J.Cole, the rabid assassin that is East proved his abilities when he dropped his mixtape Hate Me Now. Drenched in emotion, confidence, and more, Dave exudes a certain swagger that hasn’t been seen in a quality New York bred artist in years. The Harlem emcee isn’t cut from the same cloth as a Troy Ave. His style isn’t commercial. His story is a bit deeper. His skills mirrors the hunger that every New York artist should have in his DNA. The former ball player turned rapper has a legion of fans ranging from legends like DJ Premier to Wyclef, to even his boss, Nas. His track “KD” combines his love for basketball – as he pays homage to Kevin Durant on the track – and his love for pure lyricism.

East has already rapped alongside the likes of Meek Mill and Fabolous, and was even called on Trey Songz for a verse. Dave has the tools to become a star in this game. New York is clamoring for a you buck to take charge. The crown is yours for the taking Dave, go on and get it, kid. SHARE with your friends.
