Lionel Richie Hospitalized in St. Louis After Muny Show; Doctors Checking for Dehydration

Poor Richie

Fans left worried after Saturday’s outdoor set at The Muny in St. Louis when Lionel Richie was taken to a local hospital following his performance, TMZ reports. Sources say the veteran singer checked himself in for tests and is currently in the intensive care unit as doctors run evaluations.

According to insiders, Richie’s team and medical staff are taking a cautious approach — one possible cause being slight dehydration. The 75-year-old is reportedly optimistic about a quick recovery and is hoping to be released from the hospital by Tuesday.

Concertgoers noticed Richie appeared off toward the end of the evening. Witnesses say he asked his crew to bring out a chair during the final number, “All Night Long,” so he could sit while finishing the song. Those moments raised concern among fans who had come out to see the entertainer perform some of his greatest hits.

This isn’t the first time Richie has needed medical attention while on the road this summer. In June, he was rushed to a hospital following an onstage incident in St. Paul, Minnesota, when he told the crowd he felt “dizzy” and “strange.” That performance was cut short and paramedics transported him by ambulance after he left the stage.

Representatives for Richie have not yet issued an official statement and did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Meanwhile, concertgoers and music industry colleagues have been sending messages of support on social media as updates trickle out.

Richie has spent decades as a mainstay in pop and R&B, and his live shows often draw multigenerational crowds. That reality — combined with ongoing summer touring schedules — can put a strain on even the most seasoned performers. Medical teams typically advise rest, hydration and monitoring when artists experience symptoms like dizziness or fatigue on stage.

For now, fans are being asked to give Richie and his team space while medical staff complete their assessments. If the suspected dehydration diagnosis is confirmed, it would be a relatively straightforward issue to treat, but it’s understandable that the team is being thorough given recent events.

We’ll keep an eye on developments and provide updates when Richie’s camp releases information about his condition or a possible return to the road. In the meantime, well-wishes have been pouring in for the music legend as he receives care and looks toward recovery.
