When Ice Cube revealed Dr. Dre was dropping a new album inspired by Compton, we had mixed feelings whether to be grateful for the new music or disappointed it wasn’t Detox. The Apple millionaire addressed his new release on his new Beats One radio show, The Pharmacy.

According to Dre, he felt so inspired during the Straight Outta Compton filming, he started working on a secret album.

“I was leaving the set…and I found myself being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album. I kept it under wraps.”

He also explained why Detox never dropped and didn’t hold back.

“I don’t think I did a good enough job [on Detox]. I couldn’t do that to my fans, I couldn’t do that to myself.”

Compton: The Soundtrack features contributions from Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and more and could be Dr. Dre’s last ever solo project. Check out the tracklisting and preorder here.
