Historian Turns Sneakers Into Museum Artifacts

A woman by the name of Elizabeth Semmelhack created Out of The Box: The Rise of Sneaker culture as an exhibit at The Bata Shoe Museum. The exhibit came about because, although the Toronto based museum housed footwear of all types from heels, boots, running shoes and more, she didn’t feel like there was enough emphasis on sneakers. Semmelhack began her research on sneaker culture and reached out to collectors, brands, and designers to put the exhibit together. After a successful run at The Bata Shoe Museum, the American Federation of Arts has organized a traveling exhibition. On July 10, it will be traveling to the Brooklyn Museum, and later to a few other cities.

Pretty dope, Elizabeth! We here at HHMW take our hats off to you. To find out more about the exhibit click here.
