In 2013, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis dominated the Pop, Urban and Rhythmic charts with a slew of hits and cleaned up during the Grammy’s in 2014, taking home 4 trophies, including Best Hip Hop album, which caused plenty of controversy. Following the success and worldwide fame, Macklemore talks with Complex in its newest edition about how he turned to drugs for comfort.

Macklemore is featured on the cover, and following his critically acclaimed success, he talks about suffering from a relapse and having a baby. He also said candidly that the increased fame and criticism after a successful year caused him to turn back to drugs, but got clean after he found out his wife was having a baby.

Since I heard that Tricia was pregnant, I was like, ‘I need to grow up right now,’” I’ve gotten back to what makes me happy. Not in the immediate moment, [but] what’s going to make me happy in the long run.
