A couple of weeks ago, we told you that Spike Lee worked on Chiraq, a documentary about the violence in Chicago, and it would feature Chicago natives Kanye West, Common, Samuel L. Jackson, and others. It looks like the docu-flick now is turning into a musical comedy.

Spike Lee has directed over 35 films throughout his prolific career — politics, race, urban crime, and poverty all are some of the underlying themes tackled in his films. So when news of this musical comedy broke we thought it was weird; not to mention, this is a prevalent issue affecting some Chicagoans. Slated for a May 22nd release date, we’ll see how it holds up against critics. Stay tuned.

What are your thoughts on the switch-up of the documentary to musical comedy?
