Love her or hate her, Nicki Minaj has changed the face of hip hop. Outselling her male contemporaries, Minaj has proven to the hip hop community that female rappers are not a sideshow, they are not the next best thing to a male rapper, they can dominate the charts and the culture as well as any Lil Wayne, Drake or 50.

Lady of Rage managed to be one of the most aggressive rappers on her label, which is no small feat when you consider that her label was Death Row Records. She left Death Row to pursue acting in the late 90’s, Rage is still a part of the hip hop scene, having released a mixtape in 2005 and contributed heavily to the book How to Rap. Necessary Roughness remains one of the most outright intimidating gangsta albums of all time.
