15 Minutes of Fame: Shop Boyz

In 2007, everyone was partying like a rock star and playing air guitar, but not because of the very popular video game Guitar Hero. It was from Atlanta’s group Shop Boyz, the song inspired by the guitar riffs from Ozzy Osbourne’s song, “Crazy Train.” The turned up single experienced great success and was noted for the most played rhythmic and rap song in the U.S. at the time.

Party Like A Rock Star would reach the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs and Hot Rap 100 charts. In addition, the catchy upbeat banger earned Shop Boyz a triple platinum sales plaque. Unfortunately their 15 minutes of fame would run out as Party Like A RockStar would be the first and last hit hip hop heard from the group.

Shop Boyz may have done too much crowd surfing and dancing on couches, but you can’t discredit that the collective was ahead of the curve when you analyze hip hop’s current trend of “turnt up” music.
