Behind the A&R’s Desk: Is Content The New Demo Tape?

Today’s version of the demo tape comes in many different ways. For example an up-and-coming artist can place their tunes on a website or other music platforms like Soundcloud and YouTube. For the latter, a musician can gain a million of views (both domestically and internationally) and it’s a surefire bet that your talent will be heard.

So is the demo obsolete? I say NO. Now, the idea of a demo tape comes more in the form of content and based upon in the packaging and delivery. Getting your music out to the world is no different from a courier service; some artist will use Fed Ex; others will use UPS or USPA. What service will you use to get your music (and message) across to the masses? You should always remember that content is key and the musician with the best content usually wins as when you’re on your own as a self-promoter.

If you’re a artist or manager SHARE this article with others. You have to be your biggest supporter of what your doing and never think the demo tape is dead. Believe in yourself!
