Looking for an excuse to get out of town? Death Grips will be touring with Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden this Summer.

Death Grips are of course the experimental hip-hop trio that blew up on the scene a couple years ago with their mixtape Ex-Military. The mixtape got a ton of attention on the web from reviewers like Anthony Fantano at The Needle Drop. With grimy, loud beats and lyrics screamed at full volume by frontman M.C. Ride (think DMX mixed with Iggy Pop and an insane homeless person), Death Grips impressed and alienated people in equal measure with songs that sounded like nothing we’d heard before.

That said, the group’s follow-up, The Money Store, their first album proper, reminded some listeners of the loud vocals and wild beats of The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust, an album put together by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and rapper/poet Saul Williams, so it may be fitting that they’re now touring together.

The tour kicks off in Las Vegas, Nevada at Planet Hollywood on July 19th, and then proceeds through to cities including Toronto, Albuquerque and of course, Austin, Texas. The tour runs until August 25 in Hollywood, California.

The lineup showcases Death Grips’ crossover appeal. While many traditional hip hop fans have been slow to warm up to the group, hard rock lovers have taken to Death Grips, and it’s easy to imagine that there are plenty of people out there who love all three groups in equal measure.

If you don’t have a ride, it shouldn’t be hard to find a Nine Inch Nails or Soundgarden fan who’s willing to split gas with you.
