No More Maury… The Maury Show Says Goodbye After 31 Years

“You Are NOT the Father!!…” Maury show says Goodbye after 32 years

The Maury show is ending after 31 years on air. According to Deadline, NBCUniversal has canceled veteran tabloid talker Maury, hosted and executive produced by Maury Povich. The show will end original productions this season when Povich plans to retire. Original episodes will air through September, after which repeats of Maury will continue to air in syndication.

It’s almost hard to believe that there was once a time when the Maury show wasn’t solely about paternity testing. But I guess after 31 years on the air you have to switch it up and figure out new ways to keep your audience’s attention. I guess we will no longer see Cameramen chasing people into the greenroom. Honestly, that had become my personal favorite part of the show. I also enjoyed when Maury would set up his guests with beautiful decoys to see if they were faithful to their significant others.

Maury Show says Goodbye – But It Was Long Overdue

According to Povich, this closing chapter is way overdue. He told PEOPLE magazine, “Six years ago when I was ready to retire, the NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show,” Maury said in a statement. “Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, [Executive Vice President of NBCUniversal Syndication Studios] Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal.”

Maury began in 1991 as The Maury Povich Show. That title would shortened to just Maury in 1998. The series deals with an array of hot-button topics and social issues centered on Povich’s guests as well as the in-studio audience. Maury is amongst a slew of daytime talk shows that will see cancellations this year. Jerry Springer’s latest show Judge Jerry will also see its final days in Sept of 2022.
