—Mike Jones “Back Then”
Who remembers Mike Jones? The Houston based hip hop recording artist, with arguably one of the best music marketing ploys ever, had the whole world tippin and calling the phone number he would freely announce any and everywhere. In case you don’t remember, let us remind you Who Is Mike Jones?
In 2004, the Swishahouse artist released a breakout single. “Still Tippin” had the nation buzzing and was the perfect set up record for his follow up single, “Back Then.” Even though both records had their fair share of radio spins, the latter would go on to be his biggest breakout record. “Back Then” would go on to reach certified RIAA platinum sales.
On April 19, 2005, Jones released his debut album. Who Is Mike Jones? reached certified RIAA platinum sales and eventually reached the double platinum plateau.
Despite his success, the rapper would later leave Jive Records and build his own label/imprint. With Ice Age, a partnership with Asylum Records distribution, he dropped a self-titled single named Mr. Jones. Mike Jones then went on to drop a EP/movie titled the American Dream, which unfortunately didn’t experience the same success as his past releases. So, now we’re left to ask, Where is Mike Jones…?
