Kendrick Lamar Wins California Generational Icon Award

Authenticity is a word often brought up when discussing a rapper’s lyrics, and while most of the time the term is associated with violence and money, Kendrick Lamar proves he really is the role model in his hometown he talks about in his rhymes. California State Senator Isadore, a fellow Compton native, claims K. Dot has donated a couple hundred dollars towards rebuilding parks and opening after-school programs. In addition, the To Pimp A Butterfly rapper is a familiar face in his community and serves as a positive influence for the city’s youth. As a form of appreciation for his contributions to the city of Compton, Kendrick Lamar received the 35th Generational Icon Award. Watch the full video above!
