On March 9, Drake shared some news at the beginning of a Raptors-Rockets game at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Before the game started, the music video for “God’s Plan” was played, in celebration of “Drake Night” at the Canada Centre. After the video ran its course, Drake took to center court with a mic in hand and said this to his fellow Torontonians:
… I love each and every one of you, I’m happy to be home, I’m working on this new album for the city, and tonight… [applause] Yeah, that’s right…. And, by the looks of it, tonight, this win streak is over, so let’s go get it. Yeeeah!”

Although Drake has released projects like More Life and Scary Hours, he hasn’t released an official studio album since Views, which was released back in April of 2016. The first mention of this upcoming album occurred last August at the 2017 OVO Fest, telling the crowd, “I’m about to go back to making this new album in Toronto just for you” at the end of his set.
Although many of Drake’s albums could be considered as tribute to Toronto, this is quite possibly the first album he has explicitly said to be a dedication to Toronto. Drake has yet to announce a release date or any further details.
On top of his album announcement, Drake also accurately predicted the end of the Raptors’ 17-game win streak that night at the Air Canada Centre. God’s Plan? Maybe so.
