Hip Hop’s True Renaissance Man: A Retrospective of the Career of Sean “Puffy” Combs

The success that Puffy garnered with Bad Boy Records wasn’t enough. Puffy had dreams of being an entertainer like the many artists that he helped bring to the forefront. So, on July 1st, 1997, just months after his most successful artist, The Notorious B.I.G. was gunned down in Los Angeles, Puffy released his debut album No Way Out and officially changed his name from “Puff Daddy” to “P. Diddy” at the suggestion of his friend and rap mentor The Notorious B.I.G.
