Rapper Gunna received bad news about his case yesterday (May 24) as he was ultimately denied bond. His associate, Young Thug, got an update as well. The two rappers have remained incarcerated in Atlanta as the RICO case against them builds. Thugger and Gunna have been accused of being a part of a criminal enterprise with YSL. However, their attorneys have maintained that the popular chart-topping rappers have not engaged in gang activity.
To date, 28 people have reportedly been named in an extensive indictment against YSL and its alleged associates as prosecutors claim that members have been a part of murders, robberies, and other illegal activities including Lil Wayne’s 2015 bus shooting and the stabbing of YFL Lucci.
Below is a clip of Thug’s preliminary hearing. The video was shared by Fox 5 News in Atlanta as they provided details of what was decided during the court appearance.
“A judge delayed his decision on bond for Jeffrey Williams, known on stage as Young Thug,” Fox 5 reported. “Prosecutors contend there is a conflict of interest issue regarding Williams’ attorney. The judge asked for time to rule on the prosecutors’ motions before deciding on bond.”
This is a very unfortunate, yet common theme happening in Hip Hop nowadays. The correlation between Hip Hop and gang culture is like a double edged sword. It’s the gang affiliation that make these artists popular for whatever reason. However, these same affiliations seem to be what takes them down in the long run.
I truly hope these young men get a fair shot.
