Back in late March, a video surfaced of rapper XXXTentacion hitting a girl in the side of the head, right on the heels of the release of his ? album, which debuted at #1 on the charts. The video caused much controversy, as many of his fans defended his actions in the midst of public disgust.
Now, X is suing the girl he hit in the video for fraud and defamation. According to XXL, X’s manager reached out to the girl shortly after the video was posted, and she had apparently been willing to go on record to say that the video was just horseplay. The girl’s grandparents reportedly found out about the incident, which caused the supposed arrangement to fall apart. Instead, it is said that they wanted X to pay $300,000 in reparations, or else the girl in the video would hold a press conference criticizing the rapper’s alleged history of abusing women.

According to TMZ, XXXTentacion’s attorney Jaclyn Broudy told the outlet that it’s clear from the video that her client and the girl are friends and “the video was taken completely in jest.” She also noted that the footage was dated, and that X is a changed person, even though people may be trying to harm his reputation. TMZ has also reported that the video was made in 2013, with both of them being around the age of 16 at the time. See the video below.

The suit filed reportedly claims that X merely “tapped the back of her head” while playing around, but many who’ve viewed the video find the claim hard to believe. Amid accusations of posting the video for malicious or selfish reasons, the girl made her defense over Instagram. The now-deleted post said the following:
”For those who are questioning why I didn’t come forth earlier was because I was terrified for my life..imagine someone doing that to u unprovoked.? At 16?let alone the people he associates himself w/? truth of the matter is I would still be holding on to this secret if it wasn’t leaked”
This legal situation comes as X is awaiting trial for an incident that took place in 2016 in which he allegedly beat his ex-girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time. X caught a multitude of related charges for witness tampering in the case, after he allegedly tried to coerce his ex-girlfriend into not testifying against him. XXXTentacion says that the girl he is suing is trying to take advantage of his current legal situation for personal gain. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.
