Section 80 was released on July 2, 2011 through iTunes (not a traditional mixtape release during that time,) but this was the start of the Kendrick’s national movement. Before this release, K. Dot had built a solid fanbase from previous mixtapes, but Section 80 was the one that took his popularity to the next level. Kendrick Lamar is often credited as the premier lyricist of the current hip hop generation.
