Rapper Young Thug was once again denied bond at a hearing held today (June 2nd) following an indictment that charged him — as well as Gunna and 26 other alleged members of the Young Slime Life crew — with felony conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. The celebrated Atlanta rapper, whose legal name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, faces an additional felony charge of participation in criminal street gang activity within the indictment and was hit with seven new felony charges outside the indictment after a raid on his home during his Monday arrest.
Judge Denies Young Thug’s Bond
Thug was initially denied bond on May 11th after the judge decided they he needed more time to see if Thug’s current attorney, Brian Steel, would be able to represent him in the case. The DA insist it would be a conflict considering Steel has represented one or more of his co defendants on the case.
Another defendant in the YSL RICO case, rapper Yak Gotti, whose real name is Deamonte Kendrick, was denied bond today. Gotti is being charged with murder. A judge has ruled Gotti is a threat to witnesses. He also insisted he refused to release him after he was caught with a cell phone in jail!
Gotti’s lawyer, Jay Apt, put up a strong argument to obtain bond for his client. Apt stated, “He is signed to a nationally recognized recording label. He had one platinum and two gold records. He’s got a child who is 7 years old, Dawson, who he helps to raise with that child’s mother. He has lived in Atlanta his whole life. He’s got a lot of community support. Friends, family, business associates. However, this didn’t sway the judge.
