Gucci Mane pleaded guilty to assault in court yesterday (September 15). The Atlanta rapper was sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting an Army staff sergeant with bottle in a nightclub on March 16, 2013.
This sentence is in addition to a 39 months sentence for a unrelated gun charge. The sergeant reportedly walked up to Gucci Mane’s VIP area and was looking to take a picture with the rapper before being hit with the bottle. According to the AJC, District Attorney Paul Howard spoke on the matter stating,
“Rather than accommodating the admiring fan, Davis, for no explicable reason, instead, hit the victim over the head with a vodka bottle and then hurriedly left the club. The victim sustained a deep laceration to his forehead which required 10 stitches.
In September of last year, Gucci Mane was arrested after police found the 34-year old rapper with a 45-caliber pistol and eight bullets. At the time of his arrest, Mane was already serving probation for a previous felony charge. A few months later, Gucci Mane was sentenced to serve 39 months at a hearing in August. Gucci Mane agreed to a plea deal on the weapons charges, avoiding a potential 10 year long sentence in the process.
Gucci was held from the time of his arrest to the time of the hearing and as a result of the latest court ruling, the eleven months Gucci served between September and his sentencing hearing last month will now be subtracted from the 39 month punishment. That would’ve left the rapper with a total of 28 months left to serve.
