Oscar-nominated director Baz Luhrmann recently inked a deal with Netflix and will air thirteen episodes of his new hip-hop series The Get Down about the 1970’s Hip-Hop scene. Luhrmann made his television series debut with Moulin Rouge! and has been working on The Get Down for over a decade. The show focuses on a crew of kids from the South Bronx and tells the story of how New York’s inner city not only gave birth to the entire hip-hop culture but also gave birth to the current punk movement as well. Luhrmann will direct and executive produce the first two episodes in addition to the series finale. The Get Down is set to start airing in 2016. Watch the trailer for the upcoming series above.
