“Rapper’s Delight” was the first successful rap song, peaking at #36 in the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Culturally, the 1979 release earned a #251 ranking on the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Also, hip-hop experts gave the song a #2 ranking on About.com’s and VH1’s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs. Last but not least, in 2011 “Rapper’s Delight” was recognized by the Library of Congress in 2011, who based their award on the track being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
