PressRoomVIP recently worked closely with Lifebeat, an outstanding organization with a mission to educate America’s youth (13-29) about HIV/AIDS prevention by mobilizing the music industry. Their work with Lifebeat was to produce public service announcements for National HIV Testing Day, which is June 27th. This date was set aside by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to encourage people to get tested.
Most millennials did not experience the terrible impact HIV/AIDS made worldwide in the ’80s and ’90s. Many don’t even know that it took years of social activism to bring attention to and receive aid for those suffering and dying from HIV/AIDS. The play The Normal Heart, which was recently adapted into an HBO film, vividly depicts the chaos and struggle the LGBT community faced during the onset of the epidemic.
It appears that because today’s youth lack this knowledge and experience they have become careless towards the subject, and as a result there has been a rise in unsafe sexual practices. The CDC has released a shocking statistic that proves this to be true. In the U.S., approximately 1,000 people between the ages of 13-24 are diagnosed with HIV every month, a drastic rise from years past. Keeping the youth informed and educated is essential and why organizations like Lifebeat are so important.
So to help keep the conversation going Lifebeat, PressRoomVIP, Sway, A$AP Ferg, Po Johnson, Zeke Thomas, Flatbush Zombies and Bodega Bamz present these four PSAs. Be sure to share these videos and go get tested yourself.
