What about the hip hop artists who don’t speak on social injustices?
[above4]
One of the key issues that hip hop finds with white people embracing the culture is that they will embrace it without understanding it. Amandla Stenberg called out Kylie Jenner for rocking cornrows, which she believed was misappropriating black culture, and not using her huge platform to speak on cases such as Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, and more social injustices. In this same point, don’t you think we should also be pointing fingers at an artist such as Drake? He has arguably one of the biggest voices in mainstream music right now, but hasn’t spoken out on these issues. He is also half white, and, like Justin Bieber, from Canada. Why is hip hop embracing him as much as he is embracing the culture in this case? Why are white people the one deserving of the shame, but not the artists within the culture who don’t speak up for these causes? Let us know your thoughts and SHARE this story.
