George Zimmerman is not dead! Fake new websites are reporting he was involved in a deadly confrontation with ex-NBA star Gilbert Arenas, but it is clearly a hoax. The satire site Empire Sports published the report on Tuesday.
Empire Sports is a satirical and entertainment website. The site uses invented names in all its stories, except in cases when public figures are being satirized.
The Zimmerman story has almost 100,000 shares on Facebook, with many users believing it was real.
Zimmerman’s acquittal last year in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin made headlines worldwide, creating a an outrage at the criminal justice system in America. Since the conclusion of the trial, Zimmerman has had several run ins with the law involving domestic violence and illegal weapon possession.
