Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler Detained For Assumed Bank Robbery

Director of Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ Makes It To The Big Screen, Ryan Coogler, definitely didn’t know what was coming when he stepped into the Bank of America. The Black Panther director was briefly detained sometime in January by the Atlanta Police Department according to a report they filed on the 9th of March.

Ryan was approached by Variety Mag to confirm the situation and here’s what he had to say; “This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on.”

You wouldn’t think black people could still face such immediate discrimination when they go about their business in 2022! The director simply rocked a hat, sunglasses, and a Covid facemask and headed to the counter to make a withdrawal.

According to the report, he passed the teller a note that read “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet.” Well, apparently that’s all it takes for you to be a robbery suspect, oh and be black.

The teller went on to trigger a robbery alert and shared with her boss her suspicions that this was a robbery attempt. The both of them went on to call the police and the next thing Ryan knows he’s in handcuffs along with two of his colleagues.

Both colleagues were innocently waiting for Coogler with the car engine running when police approached them and detained them after they described who they were with. While his colleagues remained in the back of the police car, Coogler was taken out of the bank in cuffs. After the officers verified his identity and the bank account they were all released!

As crazy as this sounds, it happened! And here’s what one of the spokesperson for the Bank of America had to say;

 “We deeply regret that this incident occurred. It never should have happened and we have apologized to Mr. Coogler.”

Apologized with a check I hope! The black panther director is in the ATL shooting the sequel to Black Panther, set to drop in November. One would think all this racist behavior would have been reduced since the BLM movement. Unfortunately, sunglasses, a facemask, and cash can make you a robbery suspect. It is truly sad and terrifying.
