Kill The Messenger, is based on a true story about the life of Rick Ross. No, not MMG’s head honcho but the original “Freeway” Ricky Ross, the hood legend. The film is set to hit the big screen this October. The movie details the story about Ricky Ross, who at the time ran one of LA’s biggest drug cartels, totaling a whopping 33 million dollars a day! Directed by Michael Cuesta, the movie is set to feature Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michael Sheen, Jeremy Renner and Ray Liotta as co-stars in the film. Check out the trailer below.

Bourne Supremacy actor Jeremy Renner will play Gary Webb, a journalist who wrote a series of articles entitled Dark Alliance for the San Jose Mercury News in 1996. It was Gary Webb who exposed the CIA’s backing of the Nicaraguan Contras. The Contras supplied “Freeway” Ricky Ross with cocaine through Nicaraguan exile Oscar Danilo Blandón. Ross built a drug empire by selling the product as crack from his Los Angeles base to multiple states across the country. Many believe this was the start of the crack-era in the United States.
In related news, “Freeway” Ricky Ross recently won a lawsuit against rapper (Ricky Rozay) formally known as Rick Ross, banning him from using the ex convict’s name claiming his name is associated with the once prevalent drug lord’s persona.
