After the show aired in 2015, Eggleston was surprised by the uncanny similarities to her own life. So much so that she felt the only next necessary step of action was to file suit against the show’s co-creator. The suit claims she was “dismayed to see the various similarities of events and characters…so numerous and specific, especially…Cookie Lyon, that independent creation was obviously impossible.” The suit also alleges that “there is no possibility the similarities are…mere coincidence. Defendants had access to and a copy of her book.”

All of this seems a lil’ fishy. There’s a strong chance that she could be telling the truth or she could be lying, because let’s be honest — there are a million female drug kingpins that have moved weight, done time in the pen, and can easily say that Cookie Lyon is based off of their life, but doesn’t mean it’s true.
