Run—D.M.C. was the most significant hip hop group in music history. Hailing from Hollis, Queens the trio were founded in 1981 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell, more affectionately known to the world as Run, DMC, and Jam Master Jay. The collective is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential acts in the history of our culture. Their distinguished accomplishments include first hip hop act to earn RIAA Gold and Platinum and Multi Platinum certifications and they would go on to be the first to receive various award nominations and wins.
