Kool Herc, born Clive Campbell in Kingston Jamaica, is credited as the originator of Hip Hop music in the early 1970’s. He used two turntables together when playing 2 copies of the same record while prolonging the break which, in turn, lead to the creation of the breakbeat. He also fused punk rock with Latin percussions, which sonically helped create a platform for hip-hop music on all levels.
